Scar Camouflage

Scar Camouflage

Paramedical cosmetic tattoos help to camouflage scars, vitiligo, areola, and other skin imperfections resulting from surgeries and injuries. Micropigmentation can also be used to break up scar tissue and restore skin color for a more natural appearance.

HOW MUCH DOES IT HURT?

  • Pain is very minimal. The area is numbed with a topical lidocaine numbing cream along with a medical grade numbing gel throughout the procedure.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • Please check the contraindications first to ensure you are a good candidate for scar camouflage.
  • All scars must be at least 1 year old. The effects of scar camouflage can last from 1 to 3 years, but it is recommended to have an annual color boost to keep your makeup looking fresh.
  • The treated area will be slightly dark the first 7-10 days. Minimal flaking will occur for a few days. Once all flaking is done the tattoo will be lighter and softer underneath.
  • Healing takes about 1-2 weeks. No sweating for 10 days and no sun exposure for 4 weeks. No facials, chemical peels, Botox, or waxing 1 month before or after procedure.
  • A touch-up appointment will be fulfilled 4-8 weeks after the initial treatment.

MULTIPLE SESSIONS

Scar camouflage may require anywhere between 1-5sessions, with 6-8 weeks in between each session.

  • The scar camouflage may cause hyperpigmentation to your scar where the skin may produce more melanin which creates darker pigmentation areas. This is a risk that must be acknowledged when consenting to the procedure. It is essential to know how your scars heal. Try to find a scar on your body and see if there is any pigmentation around it; if your scars heal darker than the skin around them, your body produces more melanin after injury, which can happen after scar camouflage also.
  • It is essential to know that this treatment cannot guarantee you a defined skin color. We do our best to get perfect results and match the color.
  • Before the main procedure, we should make a test patch and see how it heals to understand how well the color is matched and how the scar behaves. And only after that we can proceed to the main procedure and camouflage the entire area.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE.

  • TRANSMITTABLE BLOOD CONDITIONS (e.g., HIV or Hepatitis).
  • PREGNANT or NURSING Although there is no medical evidence that permanent makeup would affect an unborn child, we don’t know for sure. So, we suggest you come back after the baby is born and you are no longer nursing.
  • Patients who have EPILEPSY, HEMOPHILIA, or a HEART DISEASE should have a physician’s approval before any permanent makeup procedure.
  • ON ACCUTANE or STEROIDS Topical steroids thin the skin. Depending on your skin’s stage, it may be too fragile to undergo the procedure.
  • GLAUCOMA
  • You must be off RETIN-A or RETINOLS 7 days before the appointment and avoid or around the area for 30 days after. If used before 30 days, it can cause the pigments to fade prematurely.
  • AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE You should get clearance from your doctor before considering permanent makeup.
  • DIABETIC (TYPE 1) If you are insulin-dependent, you are not qualified for permanent makeup. Healing could be compromised and take longer than average.
  • MITRAL VALVE PROLAPSE, ARTIFICIAL HEART VALVES OR ARTIFICIAL JOINTS, or any person that requires prophylactic antibiotics before dental or other procedures will need to consult their physician for treatment before permanent makeup.
  • ON ANTICOAGULATIONS Long-term use of blood thinners results in increased bleeding and bruising, which will affect the implantation of pigment and increase the healing time.
  • BLOOD DISORDERS that affect clotting such as hemophilia, sickle cell anemia, and platelet disorders could interfere with pigment implantation.
  • HAVE ANY OTHER HEART CONDITIONS uncontrolled high blood pressure and poor general health would be a concern; you will need to see your physician and discuss the procedure before considering permanent makeup.
  • HERPES SIMPLEX People who get fever blisters or cold sores may experience an outbreak after procedures. You must consult your physician and receive proper instructions on preventing an outbreak post-procedure.
  • KELOID OR HYPERTROPHIC SCARRING Persons with tendencies for these types of scarring also have the same risk with permanent makeup.
  • If there are any BLEMISHES, PIMPLES, ACTIVE COLD SORES (HERPES), IRRITATION OF THE SKIN of any kind, MOLES, or other skin imperfections in or around the area of the procedure. I will NOT BE ABLE to make the application until the blemish or area of the concern is gone or the mole is removed and healed.
  • CHEMOTHERAPY When someone is going through chemo, they may be more at risk of bleeding or getting an infection. It would be best to get clearance from your doctor before considering permanent makeup.
  • HISTORY OF ALLERGY-RELATED ECZEMA, PSORIASIS OR ALLERGIC TO MAKEUP AND COLORS OR EASILY TRIGGER POST-INFLAMMATORY HYPERPIGMENTATION As permanent makeup can sometimes exacerbate the symptoms. It would be best to get clearance from your doctor before considering permanent makeup.
  • SCARS from surgery (injury) in or around the procedure area must be healed for at least one year before service.

IF YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL ISSUES THAT YOU FEEL MIGHT BE A CONTRAINDICATION, PLEASE CONSULT YOUR HEALTHCARE PROVIDER BEFORE CONSIDERING PERMANENT MAKEUP.
